Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered where the old you went?
The confident version.
The energetic version.
The version who could juggle work, family and life without feeling permanently exhausted.
If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. I know that feeling because I've been there too.
I thought I was doing everything right
For most of my life, I thought I was healthy.
I was active, exercised regularly and watched what I ate. But I focused more on calories and fat than on actually nourishing my body.
I spent 25 years building a successful career in corporate communications, eventually reaching a senior leadership role at the age of 50.
Ironically, it was also the time when I felt least in control.
Then midlife arrived
Brain fog
A heavy, cotton-wool feeling that made even simple decisions feel impossible.
Panic attacks
Sudden waves of anxiety arriving without warning, leaving me shaken.
Food sensitivities
Allergic reactions to foods I'd always enjoyed — appearing from nowhere.
A changing body
A shape that no longer responded the way I expected, no matter what I tried.
Lost sense of self
A growing feeling that I was no longer quite myself — and not knowing where to turn.
But I kept going because that’s what you do, don’t you?
Until life forced me to stop.
Three life-changing moments
Within the space of three months:
My father-in-law died
I broke my elbow
I was made redundant
Together, these experiences forced me to confront three uncomfortable truths:
Health is fragile
Strength matters more than I realised
My confidence had become tied to my job title
For the first time, I felt:
Invisible
Exhausted
Uncertain about my future
Sound familiar?
The turning point
Those experiences forced me to rethink everything I believed about health.
I realised that health isn't about:
Being the thinnest person in the room
Exercising the hardest
Constantly putting everyone else's needs before your own
Instead, it's about having the:
Energy to enjoy life
Strength to stay independent
Confidence to embrace what's next
Resilience to navigate life's challenges
What changed for me
I retrained in nutrition and health. I learned that many chronic health issues are driven by the way we live – our food choices, stress levels and daily habits. And more importantly, that we have more control than we think.
I learned how to:
Nourish my body instead of restricting it
Fuel my brain as well as my waistline
Prioritise strength training
Build habits that fit real life
Replace self-criticism with self-compassion
Slowly, I started to feel like myself again.
More energised.
Stronger.
More confident about the future.
And that’s what I want for you too…
